FlashView Changelog
What changed in each FlashView release.
1.8.11 Current
Edit no longer sharpens raw files on its own - sharpening and structure now start at zero, and search results load completely when you ask for more.
New
- Regenerate thumbnails - Shift+right-click a folder in the folder tree and choose Regenerate thumbnails to rebuild its previews from scratch.
Improved
- No automatic raw sharpening - Sharpen and Structure start at zero for raw files in Edit, exports add no hidden sharpening, and existing edits keep their values.
Fixed
- Loading more search results - after loading more, the "... and N more" button now disappears instead of showing an outdated count.
1.8.10
FlashView now opens WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and icon files, F5 is faster and large folders scroll smoother. The slideshow keeps running on a second monitor beside the grid, copying to a folder can be cancelled, deleting and rating are safer on network drives - plus many fixes in Edit.
New
- More file formats - FlashView now opens WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and icon files; animated GIFs show their first frame.
- Slideshow beside the grid - on a second monitor the slideshow keeps running while you work in the grid, and
Sstarts it there directly. - Cancel copying - Copy to folder can now be cancelled from the status bar, just like export and card import.
Improved
- Faster F5 -
F5scans a folder only once and rereads ratings only where something may have changed. - Smoother large folders - returning to a big folder, undo and sorting no longer hold up the window, and sorting itself is faster.
- Thumbnails last longer - folders you open regularly keep their thumbnails; only folders you have not visited for 30 days are cleared.
- Delete warning on network drives - deleting on a NAS or USB stick now warns you that the files cannot go to the Recycle Bin.
- Search filter count - the number on the search's Filter button now shows exactly what clicking it will display.
- Raw previews in the loupe - small embedded previews of raw files are no longer stretched beyond their own size.
- Clearer prompts - a failed update asks before opening the download page, and moving a license fits licenses with several computers.
Fixed
- Sort by rating - sorting by rating no longer falls back to file name, and rating a picture no longer makes it jump away.
- Ratings saved reliably - quick rating changes, also on network drives, now land correctly in the file and are no longer lost on exit.
- Safer deleting - deleting a JPEG no longer removes the matching raw file's
.xmp, and a failed write can no longer cost the original JPEG. - Card import - unreadable folders on the card are reported, the check really reads from the card, and cancelling no longer leaves an empty folder.
- Edit matches export - whites stay white, export sharpens like the preview, straightening leaves no black corners, and black-and-white styles match the preview.
- More Edit fixes - Save copy keeps the state at the click, rotating with crop and redactions stays consistent, and a missing look is now reported.
- Updates and uninstall - closing the update window with X no longer installs anyway, and uninstalling no longer hangs after the trial has ended.
- Smaller polish - Esc closes only the open overlay, Cancel in Settings undoes live changes, and folders under shortcuts no longer appear twice.
1.8.9.1
Copying a style now carries the Tint of raw files as well.
Fixed
- Style includes Tint - copying and pasting a style, presets and applying a style to a selection now carry the Tint value too.
- Clearer paste prompt - the confirmation when pasting a style now says style instead of look.
1.8.9
Keyboard shortcut help (F1) now opens in its own window, the trial shows its remaining days in the status bar, and JPEGs sent to an external editor keep their camera data.
New
- Shortcut help in its own window -
F1opens the keyboard shortcuts in a separate window you can move aside, even to a second monitor, and keep working. - Buy from the lockout window - when the trial has ended, the lockout window now offers Buy a license next to entering a key.
- License changes apply automatically - a purchased upgrade now takes effect in FlashView without entering your key again.
Improved
- Trial status always visible - the status bar shows the days left during the whole trial with a Buy link, not just in the last week.
- Clear trial ending - in the last week the status bar also says that a license is required to keep working.
Fixed
- Camera data for external editors - the JPEG handed to an external editor now carries EXIF data such as capture date, camera and copyright.
- Sticky zoom and Fit - after choosing Fit, browsing no longer jumps back to the old zoom, and small images are no longer stretched beyond their pixels.
- Help key - on US keyboards the
/key no longer opens the help, and?typed in the search field stays in the field.
1.8.8
Color labels now show as a soft frame around the picture in the grid. Send an image to Photoshop or another editor and return - plus an Edit button in the toolbar. Ctrl with the arrow keys browses your images while the folder tree keeps the focus. Enter now opens and closes a picture, and the EXIF panel shows the file date.
New

- First click only activates - clicking into the picture of a FlashView window in the background brings it to the front without zooming.
- Calmer folder switching - the loading overlay only appears when a folder takes longer than half a second.

Fixed
